A friend of mine is about to move back to the States shortly, and he asked me to look up some alternatives on finding a place to live.
Moving home, especially across the ocean, is a different sort of trip. One which can involve your everyday city to something completely alien - suppose you moved from Casper in Wyoming to Tokyo - it'd change your whole life and definitely qualify as adventure travel. Though with all your worldly belongings and quite possibly your family in tow.
There's quite a number of sites out there for finding a new U.S. home to live in, and choosing between places isn't easy. National Relocation has a good selection of homes for sale and houses for rent and can also help you find realtors all across America. Browsing across the site will give you a fair few alternatives to look at, ranging from swanky downtown apartments to sensible houses in the suburbs.
I can remember back to 1997, when I had to quickly find a place to live for university, and it's so much easier to find a place now. The drawback of course is that the sense of adventure and accomplishment when you do is definitely diminished!
Moving like this is still a difficult thing to do, but a good search engine for finding a new home is reassuring. My friend's now found a great pad in Austin thanks to the site and we hope to visit soon.
