I'm really a backpacker at heart, but when I travel with my wife I'm leaning more towards somewhat more comfortable trips. In other words, I'm searching out luxury holidays from specialist suppliers like Only Exclusive Travel.
My honeymoon may be a while behind me, but our anniversary is coming up within the next few months. That's as good an excuse as any to take a trip, and as the date's at the end of January, why not head for a tropical location with some very nice beaches: Mauritius! Only Exclusive Travel has a few resorts to choose from in Mauritius, but the two best looking ones are Le Saint Geran and Le Touessrok.
Le Saint Geran
Le Saint Geran, Mauritius is a flagship resort built by One & Only Resorts. It's one of the world's premier resorts, and known as the Grande Dame of Mauritius since it's construction. It's placed on the tranquil Belle Mare peninsula amongst 60 acres of tropical garden and two kilometers of private shining white beaches.
You'll stay in a suite at Le Saint Geran, most likely with an ocean view. And once you get tired of the beach loungers, golf course, or exclusive spa, there's food from French, Chinese, Indian, and local chefs to be sampled in a number of restaurants on site.
Le Touessrok
Le Touessrok, Mauritius isn't a full resort but rather a beautiful luxury hotel on Mauritius' East Coast. It's definitely modern and luxurious, but also adheres to the local tradition of white walls, thatched roofs, and Creole charm. You'll stay in chic rooms or enormous suites, depending on your budget. Each and every room overlooks the Indian Ocean, so no matter how much you're spending it's a pampered experience even without visiting the onsite spa.
The Creole traditions at Le Touessrok means the food is spicy and flavorful as well. There are many international influences, but the heart of the cooking is simply that of Master Chef Patrick John.
While at the hotel, there's access to a champion ship golf course: Ile Aux Cerfs. It'll challenge even the most proficient golfer.
My pick
I've realized it's back to the drawing board for my personal budget for this anniversary. But... given the funds, the Le Touessrok hotel looks like a very pleasant way to spend a week. Or a winter.
