We got married - eyeflare newsletter 5

It's certainly been interesting, not only did I get married I also went to the US twice and got a new tattoo. About the marriage, and more new articles in this issue.

There was a marriage

Firstly, Lauri and I got married in Big Sur, California, on 28 January 2007. This is also my birthday and I think that this year I received the gifts from all my future years in advance. While we did, technically, get wed in the dusty state of Nevada, the real event was a small, beautiful, ceremony on the cliffs of California. But we did get to see the strip, visit a casino and to check out the cool ReJavanate Coffee Lounge. Check out their great cappuccinos if you happen to roll by.

In Big Sur, we stayed at the rustic Fernwood Resort. With some some reservations (what? no breakfast?), we both recommend this place heartily. It's also in the middle of a Redwood forest, so the smell is fantastic. We had a nice pre-wedding lunch at the River Inn, just a little north of Fernwood, letting our guests find us and getting acquainted. With very reasonable prices and excellent food, this place is a Big Sur gem. They also have a nice hotel operation going, or so we heard, and we'll try it next time.

The ceremony itself took place in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, about 30 minutes further south. We chanced on finding a spot by the McWay Falls and were lucky to get a beautiful viewing spot and fantastic weather. Not only did we get the sun to break out from the clouds just as we finished our exchange of vows - on our way back we came across the most brilliant rainbow we've ever seen! You can find Jack's vows and Lauri's vows on the site.

The day after was spent driving to L.A. on California's Highway 1, probably the most stunning drive in the world. Some more photos from Lauri and mine wedding are available in our online wedding photo gallery.

Other articles

After reading a lot about how bad flying is for the environment, I wrote an article with 5 eco-friendly travel habits you can take up right now or on your next journey. Completely common sense, just these habits can help save our planet so that future generations can roam through green pastures too.

Seeing as I live in London I'm starting a series of articles on how to navigate life in this great city, starting with how an Oyster Card can get you around cheaper.

Karla contributed a fantastic piece on the real reason she loves travelling. We can all identify with her reasons.

I ended up re-posting two articles from others as I found them of great interest: First off is a lengthy piece from Eugene on how to take back our world with positive actions and thoughts. The second outlines how 'Big Food' lies to us and feeds us trash labelled as food. Articles like this is the reason I like the Slow Food Movement so much!

Outro

Keep your eyes peeled for more articles on living cheaply in London and other things to read and do. My next trip will be Lauri and mine honeymoon trip to Paris.

Until then - Happy Travels!
