Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve may be one of the most beautiful and diverse environments on the planet. Located near Monteverde, a small town in Puntarenas, Costa Rica, the reserve covers 10,500 hectares.

Atitlan Lake was formed thousands of years ago. In fact, it is a crater filled with water of an old massive volcano. It's backdrop is three inactive volcanoes with indigenous villages at their foothills.

Credit crunch. Recession. Lay offs. Travel is suffering heavily from the poor economy. And it means there are deals everywhere right now.

Eco-travel has gone through a honeymoon period and become a mainstream trend. It's easy to find information about where to go and where to stay if you want to be eco-friendly. And it's getting both cheaper and easier to do so. However, many travel companies have jumped on the trend and turned quite a number of former eco-travel destinations into something less than eco-friendly. Here's where the green wash can be at its worst
