Located northeast of downtown Los Angeles (and convenient to Burbank airport), Descanso Gardens is an oasis in the San Fernando Valley. It is open, and blooming, year-round and is an affordable place to spend the day in LA.

The scaled down train in Descanso GardensAlthough it features a 1/8 scale diesel railroad and tours of a historical house (the Boddy House), Descanso Gardens is, at its core, a horticultural destination. Playing host to a number of gardens, it is sure to have a place for you to stroll and rest which matches your interest.

If your interest is flowers, don't miss the roses, camelias, irises, or fragrant lilac garden. For birders, the park features a bird observatory, and for those who would like to learn more about the flora of California, it also features a California garden featuring native wildflowers and, especially, poppies.

The Descanso Café can provide you with sandwiches and drinks to keep you going through your walk through the 5 acres of gardens available here.

Descanso Gardens address and hours

Descanso Gardens is located at 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada Flintridge, near the intersection of the 210 and 2 freeways. It is a 20-minute drive from downtown Los Angeles.

Descanso Gardens is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day of the year except Christmas. Visitors are encouraged to arrive before 4:30 p.m. There is ample free parking.
