The Painted Ladies

Possibly the world's most recognizable row of houses, the Painted Ladies are a popular sight in S.F.

The famous Painted Ladies of San Francisco are a row of colorful Victorian houses located across from Alamo Square Park. Constructed in the 1890s, these are just a few of the many thousands built in San Francisco during its growth boom in the late 19th century.

A lot of these were destroyed in the earthquake of 1906, but thousands remain in the southern and western parts of San Francisco.

The 7 on Steiner Street are easily the most popular: They've featured on postcards, photos, and souveniers, but the main reason is the 70 or more ads, TV shows, and movies that have featured these distinctive homes.
