The City art Gallery in York

City Art Gallery, York, also well-known as York Art Gallery, is one the better art galleries in England. The gallery displays a large collection of wonderful paintings ranging from 14th century Italian panels to contemporary and 20th century ceramics works by LS Lowry and David Hockney.

The collection of paintings and ceramics are displayed in two floors, ground floor and first floor with various themes. The ground floor is the Main Gallery, re-opened in April 2008 after refurbishment work and the first floor is the newest gallery opened in September 2009.

This wonderful place is not only good for vacation but also for an education in the history of painting. There are some events taking place in this building. It is recommended to learn about the charming gallery before visit, which will enhance your enjoyment of your gallery visit.

Open daily from 10am until 5pm, except 25 and 26 December and 1 January. Closing at 2.30pm on 24 and 31 December (last admission 2.15pm both days).
