Visit the Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens, in San Marino, California. It's a short drive from Pasadena and Los Angeles. It is more than just a library; it is a museum and cultural center of European history. This beautiful library offers people the rare chance to view original manuscripts of some of Europe's classic literature, including the actual Ellesmere manuscript of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, a Gutenberg Bible, and early editions of Shakespeare's plays, among many others.
While there, visit the English tearoom for high tea, and a stroll through lovely Victorian gardens. Then stop by the art exhibits for a hansom collection of American and European works.
Food is not allowed, but there is a nice cafe and, of course, the tea gardens are gorgeous. Enjoy!
